As the name implies, our co-hosts (Yut and Aey) will be talking about Volkswagen Beetle. Each still drives the car, Yut even has more than one Volkswagen. They will be telling their passionate stories about the cars, their trips to upcountry, cautions to new comers and how to go about getting ones and spare parts.
Aud, Guy and Aey met on the outskirt of Bangkok. They met with 2 other friends who were also VW fanatics. This turned out to be a small meeting, discussing common issues among VW drivers.
Sim, a long-time listener, drove his newly-acquired VW to show us. It's a 1969 VW, Eco model. In order to spice things up, Aey invited Guy over to co-host the program.
Khui Kui Tao: 114. A Walk on Ratchada Night Market
It's been a while, simply, due to lack of camera. Aud, Guy and Aey went on a walk on June 12, 2010, on Ratchada night to see what the market had to offer. This was known for antiques and antiques gears flea market.
A VW gathering in Chiangmai on April 24, 2010. Tommy and Aey went and met a few friends over there. Too bad that the lighting condition was not exactly ideal. Quite a few nice VWs turned up. Have a look for yourself on this clip.
It's been a while since the previous episode that the duo claimed that they would be back. Two months for an episode, that was hardly a regular program, was it? Anyway, Guy and Aey took us to visit a VW service center in Chiangmai on this episode.
After a long period of absence, the duo are back. This time, though, they were interviewed by a group of listeners about Khui Kui Tao. This was recorded at Weerayut's home. We also would like to promote the listeners' website, http://rustbugs.blogspot.com.
Out of the blues, Guy called Aey to join meeting among VW Transporters users (T3). This was a definitely a great chance for a new episode so Aey recorded part of the conversation there. This meeeting was held at Pravate with khun Aun.
It's been some time since the previous episode. Both Yut and Aey were quite busy for both personal and business reason. This episode is the second part of episode 105, so it would be better if you can view the 105 episode and then this one.
A lady friend would like to own a Beetle, so Guy did her a favor by taking her for a tour at a VW Garage in Chaingmai with Aey as the producer and camera man. The garage is Doi Garage, and we would like to thank them for the courtesy of letting us record an episode there.
While waiting for Tommy to show up at the shop, Aeng and friends talked, as usual, about their cars. Since they were all VW fanatics, so it was only natural to record this as a KKT episode. At the end, Tommy never showed up.
Khui Kui Tao: 105. A New Look for 1974 Beetle from Aud (again)
This was supposed to be episode 103 because it was a direct continuation from episode 102. After the auction, we talked to the new owner of the car. A big thank to Pat (PPP) for hosting the episode for us and, also, Tuei for giving us an interview.
With some pre-arrangement, Guy, from Krabi, Aey, from Chiangmai, and Yut managed to meeting in Bangkok. Running out of topics as well as time, they picked the common issue of why they had to buy these brands to go along with their cars.
The program went missing for a few weeks, simply because Aey no longer had a computer to produce it. The old one was too old and we just could not afford a new one for him. Somehow he managed to get this episode out. This episode was shot at a car auction in Chiangmai, and Pat was bidding for a VW bus. So you could see the before-, during- and after-atmospheres of the process.
Guy is back. That's big news. Guy (from Krabi), Yut and Aey (Chiangmai) managed to meet face-to-face in Bangkok, with each favorite drink. They originally planned to record two episodes, but managed to produce just one. Too much to drink, perhaps.
Finally, they have reached the century-mark episode and were having a really good time along the way. They were in Chiangmai with a listener, Tommy. Too bad, Guy and Aod could not join the recording. Instead of talking about new issues, they re-visited old episodes and cherished the memory. It was obvious that they were on their way to heaven that night.
Right after recording episode 98, all went in for another recording. They jumped from topics to topics, with Jin and Dear joining the conversation with Tommy as the moderator and Aey as producer as usual.
Aey is now working in Chiangmai so we may be seeing more and more VW in Chiangmai. In this episode, our old guest, Tommy, took Aey to visit his friend, John, who was the proud owner of 1966 VW bus from Australia. Because of the rain, the video was somewhat short.
The KKT gang managed to get the VW bus fanatic group to join the conversation. Because of his high spirit, Aey still managed to join via MSN because he was in Chiangmai. As usual, because of the large crowd, the conversation dragged on and had to be divided into 2 episodes. Here was the second part.
The KKT gang managed to get the VW bus fanatic group to join the conversation. Because of his high spirit, Aey still managed to join via MSN because he was in Chiangmai. As usual, because of the large crowd, the conversation dragged on and had to be divided into 2 episodes. Here was the first part.
Khui Kui Tao: 93. VW Service Shop/Garage at Lopburi
Due to energy crisis, the three were trying hard to find an optimum alternative. There were a few ideas in the discussion, some were applicable overseas and some might work in Thailand.
Khui Kui Tao: 90. Mini-meeting 2 at I wash happy, June 29, 2008
Part 2, from the previous episode. Guy managed to arrive in Phuket safely and met the local VW club. There were a few of them there, so we made this a photo episode to show some nice VW there.
This was the first episode that Yut and Aey took a backseat. Guy produced the whole show for this one. He went to Phuket on a Cal-look VW from Toang (CCK). This episode was recorded along the way on a mobile phone. They discussed about how they went about modifying their VWs and, also, the purpose of their Phuket trip.
More of a questions-and-answers episode. Guy, Yut and Aey discussed on the most frequently-asked questions such as overheat engine and intermittent engine stop. Most of the time, these questions were asked by newbies in VW. You would have to admire the three since they still enjoyed answering these questions.
Another trip down the old memory lane. These two must have missed the old gathering place at Ratchdamnuen square, around King Rama V statue on Saturday night. They talked about this from time to time. On this trip they had guy joining, talking about a new gathering place at Laksi square. Guy and Aey had been there and really enjoyed the crowd. Some notable mentions were khun LAVA and khun Kee Ma, who were the designated host for the gathering.
We were able to meet 2 Guru in VW Bus; one was khun Tum (tumtype2), who worked in the USA but was in Bangkok during the time, and Pat, http://www.thaivwclub.com webmaster. This was one of more serious discussion ones. The conversation was quite long, so we divided into 2 episodes. The first part was about the origin of VW Bus and characteristics of each annual release.
Aey was in Chiangmai for his business and able to meet with Tommy, the proud owner of 1980 Brazil VW. The car had seen its better days and was obviously ready for a painting job. Towards the end of the clip, Pat also joined the discussion. A big applaud to Aey, who appeared to take his video camera everywhere.
This was supposedly the KKT 79th episode, but due to the post-production process, we launched this three weeks late. The VW fanatic duo went literally under the hood and the car to demonstrate how to change the engine oil by yourself. It was fun to record and twice as funny to watch. However, we beg your pardon for our somewhat vulgar language. We were enjoying ourselves so much that we forgot that we would be airing this.
A recorded episode from our first workshop at Nong Aog's place, using Guy's car. It was fun and enjoyable for those who wehnt. We managed to record two episodes from the day, one on how to change engine oil and the others is how to clean air-filter. This episode was meant to be episode 80, since it was recorded later, but due to Aey's commitment to a trip to Chiangmai, he had to do a quick job of producing the shorter episode as time permitted. The next one should be quite a long one.
After receiving a few emails, phone calls and webboard posts, the two decide to answer these questions or problems on this episode. By the way, the workshop will be held this Saturday April 26, 2008. Hope to see you there.
In spirit of the traditional Songkran festival, the two talked about driving in the heat of Bangkok. Aey was especially suffering from this since both his VW had no air-condition. Yut, on the other had, fared much better since his significant other's car was a modern-day Toyota.
Yut was away and it would be some time before he came back. For the mean time, Aey put a video episode of the Khaiyai trip that they went with the Khui Kui Tao team a few months ago.
Guy has become a regular host on this program. On this episode, Guy, Yut and Aey answered technical issues from our webboard posts. This was a rather technical episode for casual listeners, but should be quite enjoyable for VW fanatics. Also, there would be an annual event on March 30.
Episode 73 came out ahead of episode 72 due to our host, Aey, being lazy. On this episode, he joined a VW car trip with the TVC group and managed to pull a VW owner to show her car, a 1971 VW.
A direct continuation from the previous episode. It sounded like a great trip and should provide some lessons in how to prepare your VW for a long trip.
Due to a webboard post (http://www.thaivwclub.com/webboard/index.php?topic=3107.0), Aey was hooked. The VW group at the webboard organized a trip to Lao among VW fanatics with a few Beetles and Buses. You might want to see the photos at the post. Then, Guy met one of the organizers at a restaurant so he pulled him and his significant other to join the show and shared their trip experience.
Three different opinions on the most frequently-asked questions on VW webborards, which service center to use. This often generated heated debates and questions among VW users, some had very bad experience while some had very different opinions.
Aey had one of his fans contacting him for VW spare parts. They ended up meeting over dinner with Yut. Our guest came with his son, who inherited a Beetle. Father and son shared their experience in refurnishing the car and their expensive lession. The content quality should make up for the sound quality.
Back to technical issue! Yut and Aey showed how you could clean your VW engine, using a special cleaning spray. They also showed how you should wrap some certain parts in the engine room. Have fun!
Aey managed to appear fully on a video episode, simply because Passakorn took care of the camera. Yut and Aey explained how to to use tools that were provided as in-car equipment. They even demonstrated how to use them on their cars. It seemed link they really enjoyed themselves recording these.
Yut and Aey on the paint job required for Yut's Karmann Ghia. As you might have noticed by now, Aey was an easy-going guy and that's how he approached his car, he did not really pay close attention on maintaining it, on the other hand, Yut was a meticulous type. He took great care of his cars, and always made sure that they were all in good shape as much as he could afford. Yut was pondering out loud on his wish to re-furbish his car.
Once a while in our driving experiences, we had this problem, our cars would not start. This also happened to our fan who posted in our forum. Guy, just came from Krabi, chimed in with his experience, getting stuck near the royal palace. Another usual discussion turned into an episode.
Yut went to HuaHin, Aey performed a course marshall duty at the recent Honda Lady PGA 2007 in Pattaya, so that was the reason why we did not have a show last week. This week, they were back and complained about the usual increasing scary fuel price. So they cooked up the recipe on how to tune up VW for this.
Khui Kui Tao: 54. Politically Correct About Driving
Yut and Aey put an old friend, Guy, on spot. Guy, in real life, was a policemen, and this was a gruelling session on how to get away from getting a ticket from a policeman. Guy did well in answering these questions. However, one had to doubt, from the conversation tone, how many of those green bottles the three finished that night.
Hard to believe that these two had been doing this for a year now. They invited a guest, Guy, our policeman from the south. They discussed their experiences in doing podcasting, as well as enjoying whatever was in those green bottles that you saw on the video.
An old timer at Bangkok Classic Car group, khun Koong appeared on our show to show his hot-rod VW. He certainly had his own style in decorating his car. Also, the way he acquired his car was quite unique, not many could do what he did. You might see him at http://www.bangkokclassiccar.com, he was more known as Lobster.
Khui Kui Tao 51: 29 Most Commonly-misunderstood Issues about Cars, part 2
From a post at Bangkok Classic Car webboard, Yut was somewhat intrigued about the it. He had doubts about some issues, but overall, it was an interesting post. So Aey and he discussed about the issues. All were about misconception in everyday driving-and-maintenance etiquette, rather than buying a car. Two must have enjoyed the conversation as on this episode, they only managed to cover the first 15 issues. And on this episode, they managed to finish them all.

Khui Kui Tao 49: What to do when accident happened!
As part of his profession, being a policeman, Guy dealt with cars accidents all the time. So he shared his recommendation on what to do and what not to do when you were in involved in a car accident.
Guy, who was a policeman, told us about his experience in dealing with insurance. As part of his profession, he had to act as the middle man when accidents took place. His knowledge about car insurance was quite amazing since we tended to forget that police had to know all these. Yut and Aey were eager on the topic since both could not find a company who was willing to insure their beloved VW.
Aud went on a trip with the Modern Bug group (http://www.modernbug.com) to Jesada classic car museum and a floating market at Lum Paya temple on a Sunday in July this year. The trip started around 8:30 AM with almost 30 cars. The museum was very interesting, consisting of many classic cars, situated about 1hr drive from Bangkok, heading towards Pinklao. You may see more information at http://www.jesadatechnikmuseum.com
Khui Kui Tao: 46. What can you do with 10,000 Baht?
Comparing to all others, old Volkswagen seemed to have few guages, but they were truely sufficient. Yut and Aey discussed different types of guages, the purpose of their existence and so on, and what you should consider using on your VW.
Today we discuss why some cars are registered illegally and how to avoid it. We discuss chassis numbers of different types of Volkswagen, Type1 beetle, Type2 bus, Type3 van, VW Golf, etc, which will help you identify your VW.
A fun topic that we came up with during a conversation, car park. We discussed some hard-to-find-space or hard-to-park car parks that we experienced in Bangkok. Some were very well known, such as Pantip Plaza, Don Muang and Robinson Silom. Ben also commented on some plazas with movie theatres, which closed down certain sections of the plaza at night, which made life after the midnight rounds of movie very tough.
Khui Kui Tao 39: What to Look for When Getting a VW Beetle
Yut, Aey and Guy met at Yut's place. Yut and Aey showed various photos of a beetle, they explained in details about what to look for or to watch out in getting a beetle, Guy, a relatively new beetle fanatic, was quite amazed at the level of details. This episode might anger some VW service centers in Thailand, as the two even look under the carpet and pointed out what most service centers would overlook or ignore when servicing beetles.
Immediate continuation of the topic. Yut told his car wash service he experienced in Bangkok. He observed some good practice in some professional service centers. Aey also stressed on how often ones should wax or clean their cars.
The two never seemed to run out of topic to talk. This time, they shared their experience in washing their cars and discuss about how to do it properly. There were some remarks about what to use and what not to use for washing cars. Hard to believe that this topic could run over to two episodes.
We were trying something new, for us, here. This episode was best viewed in Quick Time or iTunes, due to the facts that we formatted this audio file in M4A format. Yut and Aey talked about VW during 1949 and 1957 with photos of the VW's during the periods, and what to look for in each particular year. You could see the pictures changing during the dialog.
Aud told us about his new car, a 1973 doublecab VW bus. At the time of the recording, the car was still in the refurnishing state. On the next episode, we would be showing the car.
Yut and Aey invited an old guest, Aud, to join a discussion. They exchanged the experience in driving in rainy season, with some hard-to-forget experience.
By cheer co-incident, a guest turned up at our place, so Aey did not waste his time, grabbed all the necessary gears and told the producer to take care of the camera and record this episode. The car was a '72 Beetle, which had seen its better day but was still in great condition for daily use. Yut and Aey then discussed about the car, as well as enjoying their beer.
Due to technical reason, we had to release an audio episode this week. Yut and Aey discussed the practicality of using gasohol on Beetles. Aey had been using it since it was introduced, while Yut still waited until he had no other option.
Lady driver for a change. Yut and Aey found an owner who just refurnished the whole car. It was in superb condition. On this episode, we discussed how she acquired the car and how she got interested in Beetle.
Khui Kui Tao 26: Installing Air-conditioning in Beetles
Aey has been suffering from heat for the last few months, his beetle's air-conditioning was not working. So Yut and Aey revisited the old topic of installing air-conditioning in beetle; pros and cons and some ideas.
Alloy wheels and Beetles. The two provided quite a few recommendations and comments when ones consider changing to alloy wheels. There were quite a few lessons here, for example, the problem when ones had to face when changing to 17-inch wheels, such as a much bigger steering curve, requirement of a bigger engine. Khui Kui Tao 24: Thailand Motor Show in the Old Days
One of the oldest, if not the oldest, annual automobile exhibitions in the country, this is the Thailand Motor Show. And the most favorite event for Aey's is the car rally. This is a nostalgic episode, Yut and Aey told the story about how the events were like in the old days.
You really have to admire these two, who can really find a topic to talk about. This time they talked about engine oil that they used for their VW's, and their recommendation in selecting one. One thing that really stood out from their discussion was that they really shared their experiences and they were all first-hand. Bear in mind, though, that this was really their personal opinions, rather than proper lab testing results.
Browsing through various webboards, a pattern emerged, the common question seemed to be that what should be taken into consideration when acquiring a VW. Yut and Aey recommended a few tips, what to look for and pitfalls for new VW fanatics.
This was a summary of the VW event on Saturday February 27, at Wonderland. It was a very enjoyable event for the VW fanatics. There were a few fun competition, and flea markets for VW parts. Too bad, our camera did not work properly, so we could not show you the picture, but we summarized the whole event here.
Khui Kui Tao 20.5 Video: VDO Clip of Bangkok Classic Car
As promised, this was the audio recording from the event on Saturday January 27, 2007 by the Bangkok Classic fair (http://www.bangkokclassiccar.com). The duo were invited to conduct a program on stage. They, along with khun Ake (from the Bangkok Classic team), discussed about classic car lovers in general, what habits they had in common, etc. We also put the VDO on our site, it was a huge file, 220MB, so we decided to put just the audio file in here. You can download the VDO from our site.

Well, things did not turned out as planned. Yes, we did go to the Bangkok Classic fair but, due to technical reason, we could not produce the VDO tape in time. Hopefully, we could show you the tape next week. As for this week, we had some news about up-and-coming events. One of guests, Aod, would be organizing a meeting on Saturday February 10 for VW near Buddha Monthon area and the annual VW gathering event at the end of February. This week, we talked about when our cars were overheated; the cause and what to do. If you would like to post any comment, you might want to do it at our forums at http://www.changkhui.com/smf.
Going technical this time. The two went to khun Boonsong to show us some tips and tricks about how to set carburetor by yourself. This should not be too hard, it could be something that can save your car in the future. Also, he showed us some rare tricks that you did not get to see these days, though it was confirmed by khun Durian that it was documented in some technical books 20 years ago.
As a continuation from the previous episode, Guy showed us his car. Since Guy was a relatively-new VW owner, Aey gave him a few practical tips here and there. Don't forget, we always welcome any one who wants to share his or her car on the program.
We had a discussion with a policeman, and it's about a Beetle. This was one of our fan who would like to get comments from the two, so they met and recorded this podcast. Ironically, Guy just loved the Beetle with no knowledge, whatsoever regarding the type, parts, details, and he only had a chance to drive it once a month, since he worked in up country. It's lengthy interview and display, so we put in here the interview and the car would be on display next week.
The two finished the conversation about the common problem faced by newbies. They also told how they solved the problem. This was a very technical as well as educational.
Back to basic this time! The two discussed about common problems that newbies in VW usually faced. This was the first technical episode, and it was really quite technical. They discussed about the cause when VW would not start and how to go about finding a solution. The discussion was an in-depth coverage and they had to extend it to another episode.
We had an opportunity to see Pat's VW again. This time, it's a VW bus, our first episode on it. This was still a work-in-progress, as you could see on the clip. However, it still showed how much passion Pat had on the car as we could see the detailed restoration on the clip. Thanks Pat for showing us his VW. You may contact him at Pat@hospital2000.com
Hard to believe it is Yut and Aey's 12th episode already! This episode was recorded on Nov. 29. and this time, they both came back to talk about their Beetle experiences. The topic of conversation was "How to drive your Beetle and be happy". They had also invited Nong Aod as their first guest on the show to join in the fun.The sound quality was still not quite there, but that's how we liked it - raw and spontaneous. So enjoy!
Aod showed us his second Beetle, the 1967 model. This car was driven to send him to kindergarten school, so it had that emotional attachment to it. Aod pointed out how to tell if this was a 1967 or 1968 model. He even gave his email address and mobile phone if you have an inquiry.
Episode 10: 1968 Standard Beetle by Pat Downing, Part 2
Yut visited Pat Downing, who posted his Beetle for sale on SAMBA site. Amazingly, he owned three VW; 2 Beetles and 1 bus. The 1968 one was in superb condition. The first part was mainly a sneak peek of the car and the conversation with Pat, the second part was Pat showing the car. You may contact him at Pat@hospital2000.com.

Episode 9: Another VDO clip of a 1974 VW Super Beetle 1303S
Aey introduced Nong Aod and his 1303s Super Beetle known locally as 'camel back hood and curved windshield '. The name came from this beetle's unique raised hood and its curved windshield with a console inside, the first of its kind for beetles. Nong Aod also pointed out a few more unique features of this car and told us how he ended up with this gorgeous beetle. The episode ended with a short trip to a VW garage to see what a typical VW garage looks like in Bangkok area. Those who want to share their VW experiences or show off their rides can contact BUGGA-66@hotmail.com for Aey and sweerayut@hotmail.com for Yut.
No introduction needed! This is part 2 of the previous week, a VDO clip of khun Durian´car. Any suggestion, please contact BUGGA-66@hotmail.com for Aey and sweerayut@hotmail.com for Yut.
Khui Kui Tao 7: Interview Khun Durian, an owner of Karmann Ghia Type 3
Yut and Aey visited Khun Durian for his story on how he acquired the car, it was quite a story. He went on a long way to acquired each spare part for the car, since he was in search of all original type. You may contact Aey at BUGGA-66@hotmail.com and Yut at sweerayut@hotmail.com .
Aey pointed out where to look for parts in Thailand, while Yut pointed out the pitfall for overseas ordering. Also, which beetles are practically suitable for women and how hard is it install air-conditioning in Beetles? Contact Aey at BUGGA-66@hotmail.com and Yut at sweerayut@hotmail.com.
Khui Kui Tao 3: Thank you for the Appreciation and Fixing Karmann Ghia
We originally recorded the 3rd episode last week, but due to the flood of appreciation note, we decided to record a special section to thank you all of you for the note. Then, we inserted the original session to continue the story. Yut and Aey told us some more about how they went about fixing the Karmann Ghia and the desire to acquire the TYPE 2 Combi Volkswagen. Contact Aey at BUGGA-66@hotmail.com and Yut at sweerayut@hotmail.com.
It would take them a roller coaster ride to acquire the car in the picture. And they were able to top that story with their trip to Mae Hong Son, which had an unexpected result. Yut, of course, was a-few-hundred-thousands-Baht wiser following the stories in this episode. contact Aey at BUGGA-66@hotmail.com and Yut at sweerayut@hotmail.com.
The duo will be sharing their stories about Volkswagen, especially the Beetle. Each is still driving it. They do take them everywhere, they even took a trip to Mae Hong Son (the route notoriously known for 1,000+ curves).
