Board Games

A Just for Fun podcast. These were games that most Thai grew up with. We try to cover board games that we are all familiar with and we try to put a documentary video out of it. We should be covering Chess, Thai Chess, Chinese Chess, some variations of these chess being played in Thailand and possibly some card games.

Board Games: 7. Bridge, the Play
MP4 291MB 36min. - December 7, 2007
Getting complicated this time, as Aey and Rueng tried to explain in details on how to play the game, how to score and how to bid. Do not get discouraged if you get confused, it ain' t easy, but it is not too hard either. Replay to your heart content until you get the basis of it.
Board Games: 6. Bridge, the Introduction
MP4 102MB 20 min. - November 26, 2007
From a board game, we shifted to a card game. Rueng and Aey played bridge during their college days. They brushed up their old skills and showed how to play the game. This was a card game that was still popular in Thai university and still compete at the Thailand annual university game.
Board Games 5: Chinese Chess Variation 2, Half-board
MP4 261MB 32 min. - September 22, 2007
The final episode on Chinese Chess. The last variation was called Half-board, because it only took half-board to play. This must be a frustrating experience for Boy as he had to reveal his every move, while the situation was getting worse with each play. Of course, at the same time, Chai must be speaking in his mind about how much luck he had bagged on this episode.
Board Games 4: Chinese Chess, variation 1 - Liap Tui
M4V 174MB 15 min. - September 10, 2007
Due to technical reason, we had to re-record this episode. Chai and Boy explained a variation of Chinese chess called Lep Tui. This was quite popular among university student in Thailand for those who enjoyed board games.
Board Games 3: Chinese Chess, the Play
MP4 141MB 31 min. - August 10, 2007
Boy and Chai demonstrated how to play it. This was a real competition, and they did get carry away with the game. Unfortunately, there was something wrong with our microphone, so we did not have the audio of the late 5 minutes of the show, but we hoped you enjoyed it.
Board Games 2: Chinese Chess, Xiangqi
MP4 95MB 21 min. - July 31, 2007
Joey from ZadZad.Com dropped by to tell us some history about the Chinese chess, namely, Xiangqi. Chai was not able to join us on this episode. Boy did the moderation. Joey was an expert about China, he was born and raised there. Too bad, we had to do the voice over earlier in the episode for 3 minutes due to video camera malfunction. Hope the content make up for it.
Board Games 1: Chinese Chess
MP4 114MB 26 min. - July 22, 2007
For the very first episode, we showed how to play Chinese chess board. This is quite different from traditional chess games, including Thai. To start with, the board is different, and all the pieces are written in Chinese characters. Boy and Chai hosted the show.
